The Institute of Directors (IoD) NI and Lunn’s the Jewellers have today launched the search for nominations for the 2016 IoD Lunn’s Award of Excellence – one of the longest-running business awards in Northern Ireland.
Created to celebrate individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to local business and to society in general, 2016 will be the 15th anniversary of the award.
The IoD Lunn’s Award of Excellence is recognised as one of the most coveted business accolades in Northern Ireland, with the winner awarded a prestigious Rolex watch and trophy, and is open to nominations from across all sectors.
Marie-Therese McGivern, Chief Executive of Belfast Metropolitan College, won this year’s title, joining a stellar list of previous winners which includes 2014 recipient Jim Dobson, Group Managing Director of Dunbia. The 2016 winner will be announced at the IoD NI’s Annual Dinner in February.
Speaking at the launch of the award at the Merchant Hotel in Belfast, Paul Terrington, Chairman of the IoD NI, said:
“You just have to take a look at the list of previous winners of the IoD Lunn’s Award of Excellence to realise just what esteemed company this year’s successful nominee will be keeping.
“High calibre leaders such as David Dobbin of Dale Farm Ltd, Helen Kirkpatrick of Kingspan plc, John McCann of UTV Media Group plc, Bro McFerran of Allstate, Michael Ryan of Bombardier and Michael Howard of SHS have won this award in previous years, which is a testament to the value which the business community places in it.
“Directors throughout Northern Ireland now have the opportunity to add their name to this roll of honour and we look forward to welcoming nominations from all sectors of the economy.
“The winner will be a leader whose sustained vision, energy, innovation and passion has brought success to their organisation, their employees and the wider economy of Northern Ireland.”
The winner of the 2016 Lunn’s Award of Excellence will be selected by a panel of judges made up of leading business figures and media representatives.

Also speaking at the awards launch, Peter Lunn, Chairman of Lunn’s the Jewellers, said:
