IoD members mentor Ulster Rugby stars
18 April 2013
Linda Brown, Director of IoD Northern Ireland, is pictured presenting Ulster Rugby's Callum Black with the award for Best Business Idea at the University of Ulster after a Dragon's Den-style process.
Callum and some of his fellow players were participating in an enterprise programme run by the University under the auspices of the Irish Rugby Union Players Association (IRUPA).
In a sport where a playing career can often end abruptly, IRUPA are helping to ensure that professional rugby players throughout Ireland are prepared for life after rugby.
Members of the Institute of Directors are acting as business mentors for many of the players.
The seven successful Ulster players are Craig Gilroy, John Afoa, Tom Court, Stephen Ferris, Calum Black, Declan Fitzpatrick and Jarod Payne.
They began the 3 modules of study in November 2012 and completed the programme on 16th April with a Dragon’s Den pitch of new business ideas sponsored by the IoD.
