Response to the Chancellor’s Budget 2015
In response to today’s budget announcement, Linda Brown, Director of the Institute of Directors, Northern Ireland Division, said:
“We support the Chancellor in urging parties to commit to the delivery of the Stormont House Agreement in order for Northern Ireland to set its own rate of Corporation Tax from April 2017.
“With Britain witnessing faster growth than any other major advanced economy in the world, it is crucial these corporation tax varying powers are devolved in order for Northern Ireland to take advantage and benefit directly from this undeniable cross sector growth.
“IoD members have, for a long time, called for action on income tax thresholds and I am therefore encouraged to see an increase in personal tax-free allowance from April 2017.
“The self-employed and SMEs, who remain the backbone of the Northern Ireland private sector, will no doubt welcome the digitalisation of Tax Return which should significantly relieve the pressure on them as financial year end approaches.”
