It is not always appreciated that there is no legal distinction
between executive and non-executive directors, nor is it understood by many
directors that they should leave their ‘function’ hat outside the boardroom
door. All directors need to have the
wellbeing of the company or organisation foremost in their minds when decisions
are being made. While the non-executive
director is expected to challenge what he or she is hearing from the executives
on the Board, the executive director should also be willing to challenge what
is happening if they feel it is not in the best interests of the company.
Hosted at Ulster Bank’s HQ and led by Arthur Cox Partner, Alan Taylor, The Effective Board – the challenge function will address the ‘challenge’ role of the director in an interactive, roundtable boardroom exercise.
