World renowned cancer specialist delivers IoD Leadership Lecture
Northern Ireland’s business leaders descended on W5 on 14 May for the annual Institute of Directors Northern Ireland (IoD NI) Leadership Lecture, which was sponsored by accountancy firm BDO.
Delegates heard from the world renowned cancer specialist and Vice Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast, Professor Paddy Johnston. Professor Johnston talked about how he fared moving from leading an award winning research team to heading up one of the world’s 1% top universities. “In the same way that Queen's University aims to equip students with the correct tools, direction, knowledge and advice to make a distinct contribution to society, the IoD NI provides members and event delegates with networking and professional development opportunities enabling them to significantly contribute to the business community.
“Leadership skills are crucial to all industries and I was delighted to share the experiences and challenges I have encountered so far, at the Leadership Lecture.”
Chairman of the IoD NI, Paul Terrington, said: “The IoD aims to support and develop local business leaders in order to benefit our wider economy through extensive networking, professional training and mentoring programmes.
“Leadership is a skill relevant to all shapes and sizes of organisation so we were pleased to welcome both members and non-members, in organisations from start-ups to public sector bodies.
“We were delighted to welcome Professor Johnston as our Leadership Lecturer and thoroughly enjoyed his presentation.”
Peter Burnside, Managing Partner of BDO said: “BDO Northern Ireland was proud to be involved the IoD Leadership Lecture 2015 and like the Institute, we have been supporting NI businesses and the leaders behind them for a long time- over 25 years.
